The first of the modern stained glass windows to be put in the cathedral when they started replacing the Munich glass. WEBSTER, G: 4-l Window and rose South transept commemorating 4 Scottish Army Divisions. Red of the rose window symbolises Sacrifice. Upper light shows Michael killing dragon, lower St Andrew with cross and fishes. At the sides are the battle honours and signs of 9th, 15th, 51st 52nd Divisions. Tartans of the regiments are used for the borders. 4 lower lights commemorate the Glasgow Highlanders and the Highland Light Infantry, while below thm are four figures representing warriors and regimental battle honours. Queen mum dedicated them 1954. 1 in 1950. WILSON, W: 1 window in Cameronian Corner, North transept, given by the Cameronian Regiment depicting badges, emblems, battle honours. 6-l & tracery window in North Transept (upper window) and 4-l & tracery (lower) .The badges of 12 Scots regiments which fought in 39/45 war (some of which no longer exist) in upper lights, with the coats of arms of their depot cities or burghs. RAF and navy commemorated in lower, with four lights showing symbolic figures appropriate to the elements in which the services work (illustrated); at the top are the Royal Arms of Scotland. Unveiled by Princess Margaret in 1961. Wilson reckoned this was one of his most outstanding works. 4-l & tracery 2nd South quire Trades House window, with 14 trades "in their proper order of precedence" (Isaac) with "their several symbols, signs and distinguishing activities decoratively arranged within a firm frame-work", 1951. Wilson uses the St Giles crown to sign. Replaces a window of 1860 to 5th Duke of Buccleuch. choir and North Transept 1949 - 1953. Window from 1950: in the Arts Council/ Commonwealth Institute 1964 exhibition of 14 Scottish painters, he listed this as one of 4 principal commissions so far. .Windows 54, 56, 58, 60.
