GRANT, M: Lancet, East chapel, 1952. 3-l in West end South Quire, shows St Nicholas (patron saint of seafarers) and was given by Mrs F J Stephen and family of Stephen of Linthouse, shipbuilders (hence subject). 1954. Given by Sir John Stirling-Maxwell. Two of a series with 5th window, "Christ and the world". Last window to be made - Jimmy Coull cut the glass. Hendrie couldn't finish the painting, partly because it was too long since he'd done it and partly because he was too ill (he was closing down his studio) so it was done by Charlie Blakeman. Left light in memory of Sir William Bilsland BT, Lord Provost of Glasgow 1905 - 8, and Agnes, Lady Bilsland, erected by their son. Centre light in memory of Rob. Henry Sinclair JP, 1851 - 1923, Elder of Glasgow Cathedral and Margaret Taylor Sinclair his wife, erected by their son. Right light in memory of John James Spencer, Merchant of Glasgow, died 1938, erected by Anne Rintoul Spencer and Charles Louis Spencer. 4-l Great East Window, showing the four Evangelists, each with traditional symbol, with royal coats of arms at the foot of each light. The lights were all given by different donors - Lord Bilsland, Lord Sinclair of Cleve, Anne Rintoul Spencer, Charles L Spencer. 1951. Replaced the window given by Queen Victoria. 4-l and rose and tracery West, depicting the creation with Adam and Eve with assorted flora and fauna beneath the golden rays of the light which veils the Divine Mystery. Very yellow. Given by Glasgow Corporation, 1958. STAMMERS, H: 2 windows in Cameronian Corner, North transept, given by the Cameronian Regiment depicting badges, emblems, battle honours. 4-l window in West end of nave, North west corner, Scots Guards memorial window symbolises at top of each light one of the four freedoms - Freedom from Want and Fear, Freedom of Speech and Worship. Given by the regiment, unveiled 1956. 7 in Blacader Chapel, 1953 - 60. STRACHAN, D: 3-l & tracery 4th window in North wall, of Moses with incidents from his life illustrating leadership. Given by Mr and Mrs Mowat. Illustrated.
