GOUDIE, I:
Rose of 10 segments with a centre piece with 10 small other traceries, alternate figures and ornaments. Memory of Rev. Wm. Jardine Dobie, given by his daughters. Clockwise reads from the life of Peter: Lord in Glory "Lovest thou me?" (appearing to disciples at sea shore, showing hands and blessing them - suggests His abiding presence); blessed again; miraculous draught of fishes; crowing cock; washing feet. Centre panel Christ in boat (Tempest). Panels of ornaments are of nets and ropes, and the border traceries have fishes, seaweed, moon, sun, stars. The theme was overall the transforming power of Christ in the life of the ordinary man; Peter  is appropriate since this is a seamen's church. The colouris rich gold in the panels of ornaments, with a band of sea running through them, and ranging from brilliant blue and white of the topmost panel to a russet red background of the figures. Peter and the cock have a dusky red background to signify emotion. 1" sketch exhibited 1939. Window dedicated 9th July 1939 (Scotsman 8.7.39 which states she both designed and executed the work).

KIRKCALDY

  • CHURCH OF SCOTLAND
The web site has a well-written and interesting history of the church by John Irvine
Ex: Two stained-glass windows which dated back to 1839. Originally fitted in the east gable, they were replaced in 1886 by the Russell memorial windows and re-inserted in the west gable. Unfortunately, the glass and leadwork of those windows were seriously damaged by a  fire in 1986, and they were replaced by the 2 Clark windows.
BURNE-JONES, E (Des); MORRIS, W (Fec):
Two stained-glass windows, East wall, memorial to Russell, died 1877. South window "is considered to be the finer of the two" (Church web) and depicts Miriam, Moses, Ruth and a scene at Bethlehem with Joseph, Mary, the infant Jesus and angel. The other window has Moses, Elijah, the Annunciations and the raising of the widow's son at Zarepthah. The
