Entrance foyer. 3 windows with coats of arms: left, Mary Queen of Scots; centre, Scotland illustrated; right, Scotland pre-Union. 20th century. Above the foyer on the first floor are 5 coats of arms - Victorian? BOSS, W Graham (Fec); ROWAND ANDERSON, R (Dec): Through in the part that used to belong to the Antiquarians, there is a window commemorating the opening of the museum. It contains portraits of 24 men (the founders?) with Victoria above them, and has an inscription of the opening date of the museum - The 13th Day of August 1891. Presented by John Ritchie Findlay. Close-up illustrated. The architect of the building, Sir Robert Rowand Anderson, designed the glass. A curious feature about the glass throughout the museum is that a clear pinkish film has been stuck on the white glass, presumably to reduce glare...

Stained glass of Trade Guilds. BALLANTINE & ALLAN are recorded as working on the extensive stained glass scheme in 1848. "The present windows, none of much quality" (Buildings of Scotland) are of 1889 - 93 and by BALLANTINE & GARDINER and BALLANTINE & Son.
