Central figure is Jesus, other figures are St Andrew, St Columba, St Margaret and St Bridget "the Mary of Ireland" (saints chosen by Queen Victoria - this was her local when at Balmoral. Designed by Bell (at that time based in England) and made by Guthrie of Glasgow (though signed J & W Guthrie, London - presumably they wanted to advertise their new London showroom to Vickie's cronies - if it's good enough for the Queen's church, it's good enough for ours!). Anyway, they were the first windows designed by Bell, and had to be tweaked by Guthrie's since he didn't know how to design stained glass. Moreover, Bell - having been brought up in England (with the concomitant lack of knowledge of all things North of Hadrian's wall) - assumed that "St Margaret" was St Margaret of Antioch; his original sketch shows her standing on a cute wee dragon curled up and vanquished, speared with her cross. The studio had to remove the dragon, so the finished window has her standing gazing at her feet... Of course, Bell rose above this design hiccup and went on to greater things such as becoming Professor of Decorative Art at Glasgow and designing some windows for Dalry St Margaret's - the only church in Scotland actually dedicated to Margaret of Antioch. CLAYTON BELL: North window, South Transept. Centre light: upper part occupied by a figure of Jesus in glory, and words "I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live" with angel under "He is not here, for he is risen". Side lights filled with armorial bearings of royals. "This window was placed here by Queen Victoria in 1895 in loving rememberance" : Victoria (Duchess of Kent), Leopold, Frederick William (Emperor of Germany), Albert (Prince Consort), Alice, Louis (Grand Duke of Hesse)

Window, single light Victorian, with "rather fine snakes"! (Bayliss) Window, single light Victorian, Christ teaching "Believe in the Lord" Illustrated. POWELL: Single light depicting St George standing over slain dragon. Illustrated. TIFFANY, L C: 3-l East window, Forber-Leith Memorial window depicting St Michael. Illustrated. "the Son of the Laird of Fyvie was very well established in the states prior to the first world war. His Mother was American. He died in the war and his friends who must have been well heeled commissioned Tiffany's to do this window to order and had it built into the new gable end of the church at Fyvie. The smaller window is actually a portrait of the son." Willie Semple, who took all three pictures. 1902 The window was fitted by Powell's and is 5 layers thick in place. As a result, considerable cracking has occurred. There is no paint, details coming from etched brown glass, faceted glass and heavily folded glass, (Info from J & M Bayliss)
